The Amber Flag

The Pieta Amber Flag Initiative recognises the individual efforts to create healthy, inclusive environments that support the mental well-being of the organisation. By joining Pieta's Amber Flag movement, you'll be part of a community across Ireland working together to break the stigma surrounding mental health. We are very excited to be taking part in the challenge of obtaining the Amber Flag this year.

Successful completion of the Amber Flag initiative involves the whole school community coming together in order to create a safe, positive and healthy attitude towards our general, physical and mental health wellbeing. It is so important to look after our minds. We must look after our minds like we look after our bodies.

SEPTEMBER 2024

We have decided to continue on with the great work we started last year to promote wellbeing in our school. We are not applying to renew our Amber Flag until next year but will work hard to continue to promote wellbeing and positive mental health in our school.

We had a staff Croke Park hour on mindfulness, this included lots of ideas to help both the pupils and the staff.

We also marked SNA appreciation day in our school with some special cupcakes for our nine SNA’s and teachers covered their small break on the day.

OCTOBER 2024
We promoted the Amber Flag committee and what its all about to our First Class pupils. Teachers picked some First Class pupils to join our committee for the coming year and to replace those from last year’s Sixth Class.

NOVEMBER 2024

We continued to update our Wow Boards in each campus celebrating the extra-curricular achievements of our pupils.

DECEMBER 2024
Meetings were held on each campus to discuss the Amber Flag and review how things are going. Pupils were to return to their classes and remind teachers and pupils about our ‘Wow board’ and the importance of movement breaks throughout the school day if needed.

JANUARY 2025

A 4 week block of mindfulness classes started in Senior Infants, First Class and Third Class.

We held our first full committee meeting in the Senior Campus. We officially welcomed our new members Casey and Annie. We discussed our Wellbeing Week last year, what worked well, what were the most popular activities, would we change anything. We also looked at the school calendar and discussed potential dates.

FEBRUARY 2025
We finalised the date for our Wellbeing Week – March 19th to March 21st. We held another meeting in the Senior Campus where we finalised plans and activities for each day. We decided we would like to hold a fundraiser for Pieta House again. ‘Crazy Hair Day’ was a big hit last year so we are going to have that as our fundraiser again on Friday March 21st. The committee went back to their classes to update them on our plans for Wellbeing Week.

A 4 week block of mindfulness lessons started for Third, fourth and fifth classes in the Senior Campus.

MARCH 2025
We have booked some activities for Wellbeing Week. The Senior Campus are going to do some Zumba classes and the Junior Campus are going to enjoy some sensory play sessions. We have some K’nex boxes on loan for both the Junior and Senior Campus.

Wellbeing Week 2025 was a great success. The children really enjoyed the few days with lots of fun activities. We were delighted to raise €384.50 for Pieta House.
